How much does a website cost in Ireland?
Typical prices for small business websites and online shops in Ireland, what drives the cost, and the running costs people forget.

Most small business websites in Ireland cost between €800 and €4,000 to build. An online shop typically costs €1,500 to €6,000. Where your project lands in those ranges depends on a handful of things you can control. This guide explains them, so you can compare quotes with confidence.
Typical price ranges
| What you need | Typical cost (excl. VAT) |
|---|---|
| A one-page site or simple landing page | €400 to €1,000 |
| A small business site (5 to 10 pages) | €800 to €4,000 |
| An online shop (Shopify or WooCommerce) | €1,500 to €6,000 |
| A custom web app or booking system | €8,000 and up |
These are typical ranges, not fixed prices. Freelancers are often cheaper than agencies, and agencies usually offer more people and support.
What makes a website cost more
- Number of pages and templates. Ten pages that share one layout cost less than five pages that all look different.
- Features. Online payments, bookings, memberships, multiple languages or a link to your stock system all add work.
- Content. If the designer writes your text, sources photos or takes them, that's extra. Having your words and pictures ready is the easiest way to save money.
- Custom design. A design made from scratch costs more than adapting a good theme. For most small businesses a well-chosen theme is plenty.
- Search engine work. Basic on-page SEO is often included. Ongoing SEO is a separate monthly service.
Running costs to budget for
The build is a one-off cost, but every website has running costs too:
- Domain name: a .ie or .com usually costs between €10 and €40 a year.
- Hosting: from about €5 a month for a small site to €50 or more for a busy shop.
- Maintenance: updates, backups and security checks for a WordPress site usually cost €40 to €175 a month. Platforms like Shopify or Squarespace include this in their monthly fee.
- Shop fees: platform subscriptions and card payment fees.
Don't forget VAT
If your web designer is registered for VAT, Irish VAT (currently 23% on most services) is added to their price. When you compare quotes, check whether each one includes VAT. On TechQuotes every quote says whether VAT is included.
Is there help with the cost?
Small businesses may qualify for the Trading Online Voucher, run by the Local Enterprise Offices, which can cover part of the cost of building or improving a site.
How to get a fair price
- Write down what you need: pages, features and examples of sites you like.
- Get three to five quotes for the same brief.
- Compare what's included (content, training, hosting, support), not just the total.
- Ask who owns the website and the domain when the job is done. It should be you.
